National Association of Realtors Announces New Acting Director

Washington, DC – May 17, 2021 – The National Association of Realtors (NAREB) announces the departure of Executive Director Antoine Thompson effective Monday, May 17, 2021. Mr. Thompson had held the position since 2015, during which time he worked towards the common goal of advocating for equal housing opportunity for underserved communities across the United States. The Board of Directors has named C. Renee Wilson, longtime member and current National Director of Relations, as Acting Director. NAREB, founded in 1947, is America’s largest and oldest minority real estate trade association with a mission of “Democracy in Housing.” NAREB members are known as realists.

Ms. Wilson has worked with NAREB since 2005. She brings a strong professional background in the areas of law, banking and real estate, as well as a fundamental understanding of NAREB’s mission and vision. Ms. Wilson has been instrumental in the coordination and production of many special projects, including the State of Housing in Black America (SHIBA) report, which provides an overview of the factors that affect and prevent Black families to become owners. For more than a decade, she managed relationships that are critical to the production of the annual NAREB convention, which brings together hundreds of black real estate industry professionals for training, networking and professional support. Ms. Wilson also worked with the organization’s budget and finance committee to develop a comprehensive annual budget, and she devised strategies to achieve fundraising goals.

“We are in an unprecedented era in the history of our country, and organizations like NAREB must be at the forefront, driving positive change for the black community. Ms. Wilson brings a wealth of knowledge and experience working with NAREB, and her appointment brings an important level of continuity and stability for our members and partners as we continue the important work of ensuring equality and inclusiveness within the real estate industry,” said NAREB President-Elect Lydia Pope.

“For more than 15 years, I have worked side-by-side with NAREB leaders and members to help Black Americans share in the financial benefits of real estate and achieve the American dream of home ownership. I am grateful for the opportunity to now serve this important organization and the community at large in an even greater capacity. I appreciate the trust the board has placed in me, and I will continue to work to advance NAREB’s mission and vision,” Wilson said.

Previously, Ms. Wilson was the principal owner and franchisee of United International Mortgage Bank. She also has extensive experience in the legal profession as a paralegal and legal secretary with the prestigious firms Fulbright & Jaworsky, LLC, Weil, Gotshal & Manges and Wickes Companies.

The Board of Directors wishes Mr. Thompson much success in his future endeavours. The search for a permanent general manager is underway via an internal staff committee. For more information about NAREB, visit www.nareb.org.
