June 1 – In a statement released Tuesday, the Washington Insurance Commissioner Mike Kreidler said 14 health insurance providers have requested rate increases averaging 7.16% on from washington individual health insurance market through which approximately 223,200 people obtain their health insurance.

According to the statement, people who do not have health insurance coverage through their employer can buy their insurance on the market.

Fourteen insurers have filed plans for next year, and while the choices vary depending on where you live, our market is thriving. I know that premiums and cost sharing are still high for many, especially those not eligible for subsidies, and we need to do more to address the underlying cost drivers of healthcare,” Kreidler said. .

Among the increases in health insurance rates demanded by insurance companies are a 9.66% increase from Premera Blue Crossan increase of 13.71% over Regency BlueShield and 4.5% increase from Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of Washington.
